RTC – MOD-04 – Pt.01 – Intro

Welcome to Module 4 of the RTC. In this module we’re going to cover ATC Ground Basics and how it is used in 11TSG.

IMPORTANT NOTE/PREFACE:

Due to our current numbers, we mostly use “uncontrolled airfield procedures”, meaning that there is no ATC to direct traffic around the airfields and there is no-one to approve/deny your requests or respond to inquiries.

It is still important to learn and be familiar with the proper procedures, however, expect to use uncontrolled procedures around airfield.

Therefore, whenever in the RTC you come up on the procedure that explains how radio comms work between two stations, remember the following principles as you will be applying them in the flying portion of the RTC:

Principle behind the radio comms in an uncontrolled airfield

• As there’s no ATC station, all calls are to (airfield) traffic instead of ground or tower.
• There are no requests that are aimed to an ATC who then would instruct or clear the pilot on the next action.
• The radio comms aim to inform the surrounding traffic of the pilots intentions.
• Compared to comms with ATC, no radio communication is ever established with any other station, thus, all calls start with (airfield) traffic, callsign.
• Deconfliction and separation is achieved by communication, and explained in further detail on the separate topics.
